How supreme stylist Christian Wood makes hair happen
“I love the whole process of getting someone ready,” says hairstylist Christian Wood. “Looking at the gowns, jewelry, all of it—working as a team with makeup and styling to create a final look. You never know how it’s going to turn out, so there’s always an element of surprise and excitement.”
The Los Angeles-based Brit has plenty of experience getting people ready for photo shoots, red carpets, and everything else—as you’d expect of one of the world’s most in-demand stylists. He’s known for creating modern updates on classic hair: lived-in waves on Olivia Munn, for example, or soft, romantic curls on Amanda Seyfried.
And of course, as a friend of Rosie’s, his touch is all over Rose Inc., from the launch shoot to the hair tutorials he’s filmed with RHW. “Apart from the fact we work together and I consider her a dear friend, she is always my biggest support and encourages me to be myself,” Wood says. “From the minute we met, we just got each other, and that’s a rare thing. We also never stop laughing—which I think is one of the most important things in life.”
In his kit, you’ll find styling products from Wella Professionals (he’s an ambassador for the brand), Slip silk scrunchies, wet brushes, and Mason Pearson brushes. To go from damp hair to done hair in minutes, he uses a GHD dryer—and “nine times out of 10,” he says, he reaches for the brand’s soft curl iron. (“I can add beach waves, straighten the hair, remove stubborn kinks, and more,” he explains.) Here, Wood shares a glimpse into his philosophy on hair, glamour, and much more.
