How entrepreneur Katie Sturino gets her day going

Entrepreneur Katie Sturino has been flying up the stairs of success these past few years and her incline shows no signs of stopping. The founder of body care brand Megababe has a loyal following not only for her perpetually sold-out products, but also for her fashion blog, The 12ish Style. Here, she spares a few moments from her insanely busy schedule to reveal her routines and rituals. Adult coloring books included.

What time do you wake up?

6 a.m.

Clothing-wise, what do you sleep in?

Cute pajama sets, or whatever I fell asleep in while watching Bob’s Burgers.

Is anyone in bed with you? If so, who?

My fiancé John, and not my four dogs (Muppet, Pants, Cheese, and Socks) due to a series of unfortunate events. Well, accidents. We’re trying to break the pattern!

What’s your first order of business in the morning?

Look at my phone to see what I missed since my brain turns off at 10.

What’s the first thing you do with your phone?

Text my sister and my business partner—I’m always on.

What’s the first thing you read each morning?

Sadly, it’s my Instagram. I have so many DMs, I’m right to work replying to them. You all are important to me!

What’s on your bedside table?

Glossier Balm Dot Com and a sleep mask.

What’s your favorite thing about your bedroom?

The wallpaper! I wanted it to look like the Beverly Hills Hotel. It’s pink with palm print and looks so cute with my white bedding.

What do you eat and drink for breakfast?

Nothing consistent, but I love an oat milk latte.

Who’s the first person you speak to in the morning?

I talk to Joe, even though he’s always trying to sleep in.

How do you mentally prepare yourself for the day?

I don’t. I let the day hit me in the face. It’s just where I’m at in my career… I don’t have time to have extensive preparation routines. I’m just busy and enjoying the flow.

Shower, bath, or do you do it later in the day?

Baths? Me? Too time-consuming. I take a quick shower whenever I feel dirty!

What is your morning skincare regime?

Rose oil! And I have a ton of cleansers, I use whichever I feel I need at the time. I just grab one. I also use SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF when I want to treat my skin. I’m very into Elizabeth Arden Superstart Probiotic Cleanser; it’s a super luxurious clean. When I need a moisturizing deep clean, I use Goop cleanser, and when I feel I want more of an acid exfoliant, I go for Dr. Dennis Gross Pore Perfecting Cleansing Gel– it comes from his line of acidic exfoliants. When I’ve been bad to my skin and really feeling like taking it all off, I use the Erno Laszlo detoxifying cleanser and oil. I love my Biologique Recherche P50 after wearing makeup. It depends on the day.

What are your A.M. hair vibes?

Dry shampoo! Klorane. I always wear my hair down. Never do I put it up.

What makeup products do you use on a daily basis?

MAC eyeshadow, Kevyn Aucoin mascara, Nars eyeliner on the top lid, Urban Decay pencil for the bottom lid—smudge it. I love Benefit brow gel and Megababe Bust Dust… I use it in my hair sometimes! I like Rosy Pits non-toxic deodorant, and always, Thigh Rescue—I never hit the streets without it!

If I have a photo shoot, I wear Nars Pure Radiant tinted moisturizer along with Nars concealer in Ginger. Then on my lids, I use a Kevyn Aucoin palette and I blend the colors—I don’t do dark lids, always light and neutra. I love to brush my eyebrows with Benefit brow gel for a natural, full look.

Kevyn Aucoin’s Volume mascara is a “tubing” mascara. It makes a tube around each lash, looks less schmeary, and lasts. If I don’t do my deep-cleansing routine it will last all week, seriously. Lastly, I always do a light lip—nothing dramatic. My favorite is Touch in Sol in the shade Fondue Pink for light color. I never use a liner.

At what time do you shift to evening mode?

I wish I could say I have a slowdown, but I just am full steam until I run out. I completely stop working at 10 p.m.

Finish this sentence: In the evening, you can find me…

At a work event, or hopefully on my couch.

If you’re going out, how do you change your look?

I’ll wear foundation or tinted moisturizer, and a pretty, light lip. Sometimes I will change into heels, but I always keep it fairly casual in my day-to-night transitions.

What’s your favorite way to relax and unwind in the evening?

Ohhhh, oh. I color. Adult coloring book. Forests, the sea, etc. Everyone should do it—it’s amazing. Just turns you right off in a good way.

What TV show are you currently watching? What’s the last film you saw? What book are you reading?

I’m watching Homeland and Silicon Valley. I recently saw I Feel Pretty, ugh. So good. Not reading any books right now because I just finished a few, namely Eloise. And I love murder mysteries!

What’s your favorite evening indulgence?

Coconut ice cream bars. It’s coconut, so it doesn’t count. Right? That’s how that works?

"I don’t have secret guilty pleasures. I’m an open book."

What’s your secret evening guilty pleasure?

I don’t have secret guilty pleasures. I’m an open book. Ask away, if this is that sort of interview.

What’s your favorite way to take a look from morning to moonlight?

Change into heels. I mostly keep it real. I don’t like dramatic evening looks, and light colors always work best with my complexion. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it, right?

Do you prefer an end-of-day bath or shower?

There’s no time for a bath! Even showering is tedious to me, but Christophe Robin’s line of regenerating masks and shampoos is very entertaining in the shower. So foamy, easy to use—honestly. Thank goodness for it or I would need even more motivation to get in there.
