Understated glam: the step-by-step breakdown
Over the weekend, RHW attended the premiere of Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw in a custom Atelier Versace gown, replete with a thigh-high split and sheer panels. The dress itself was the inspiration behind the makeup created by Patrick Ta. “The dress is very form-fitting and sexy, so Rosie wanted her makeup to be more understated,” he says. “Sexy makeup with a sexy dress wouldn’t be the right fit.” Working with a palette of warm neutral tones, he added just a hint of gold to create his signature glow. Here, Ta shares the breakdown behind the look.
SKIN
After skin prep, Ta used La Mer The Soft Fluid Foundation before applying concealer in a shade one lighter than the foundation.
CONTOUR AND BLUSH
When it came time to sculpt RHW’s cheekbones, Ta chose Huda Beauty Tantour Contour & Bronzer in Light for contour. A hint of coral came from Nudestix Nudies Matte Blush & Bronze in Sunkissed; Ta warmed the product on the back of his hand before stippling it on cheeks with a brush. Then, he pressed it in further with a damp Beautyblender. “That made the color become one with her skin,” he says.
A light dusting of setting powder along RHW’s T-zone reduced shine while keeping the rest of the face glowing. Along the cheekbones, the “halo” area of the forehead, and jawline, Ta used Benefit Hoola Bronzer.
EYES
To create a unified look, Ta used the Benefit bronzer in the crease of RHW’s eyes. He then blended Cheen, a dark matte brown shade from the Dose of Colors Desi x Katy Friendcation palette, along the lash line. “Rosie has amazing lashes already,” Ta says, “so I just added three individual lashes at the outer corners.”
LIPS
After lining RHW’s lips with Morphe Color Pencil in Sweet Tea, Ta used a “nude-y, brown-y mauve” lipstick to create a soft look. (Try Tom Ford Lip Color Matte in Universal Appeal for a similar shade.)
TO FINISH
To amplify the glow he created, Ta turned to his own Patrick Ta Beauty Major Glow Highlighting Mist in We Need Her. “I used it just right on her cheekbones and the high points of the forehead, then on her decolletage and collarbone.”
