Inside Poppy Delevingne’s laid-back, luxe morning routine

“Poppy is the girl who lights up any room—she really has a radiance about her,” RHW says. “Poppy,” of course, is Poppy Delevingne: Londoner, model, actress, and big sis to Cara. Of course, this style icon has impeccable taste. But better still, she always knows about an under-the-radar beauty product that inevitably makes you feel just a bit brighter and happier. Naturally, Rose Inc. wanted to know how she starts and ends her day, and (fortunately for us) she didn’t hold back. See? Told you she was generous.

Morning

What time do you wake up?

I used to be able to sleep forever. Now I’m an early bird. If I get to 7 a.m., I’m happy.

What do you sleep in?

My Olivia von Halle monogrammed silk pajamas in cobalt blue.

Is anyone in bed with you?

My husband, James.

What’s your first order of business in the morning?

Kissing him.

What’s the first thing you do with your phone?

Check my emails.

What’s the first thing you read?

The Daily Telegraph.

What’s on your bedside table?

Lavender oil, Sophie Lis star earrings, Patrick O’Brian’s biography on Picasso, a cashmere eye mask from Bamford, and Kama coconut body oil.

What’s your favorite thing about your bedroom?

The walls are covered in pale pink linen. It’s like a cocoon in the morning.

What do you eat and drink for breakfast?

Hot water with lemon, gluten-free toast with tons of butter and Marmite, sometimes two boiled eggs.

Who’s the first person you speak to in the morning?

My husband or my lovely assistant, Emma. I couldn’t live without her.

How do you mentally prepare yourself for the day?

I like to read a chapter of Self-Care for the Real World by Nadia Narain and Katia Narain Philips or say “I am grateful” three times out loud. It might sound crazy, but it works for me.

Shower, bath, or do you do it later in the day?

I’m a dance-and-sing-in-the-shower type of girl. Bath time is for night time.

What is your morning skincare regime?

I wash my face with MBR Enzyme Booster. I then use SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic followed by Hydrating B5 Gel serum. If the sun’s out I apply Heliocare SPF 50 (with a gentle tint) followed by a Sisley eye cream.

What are your a.m. hair vibes?

My hair is usually like a scarecrow’s in the morning. It’s short and bleached blonde, and I use a personalized hair care regime from System Professional to tame it. I’m trying to grow it out at the moment.

What makeup products do you use on a daily basis?

Bobbi Brown concealer, L’Oréal Mega Volume mascara, Chanel loose powder, Chanel nail polish in Ballerina.

Moonlight

At what time do you shift to evening mode?

Evening mode happens whenever I finish working, or around 7 p.m.

In the evening, you are…

…curled up on the sofa with a movie and bowl of salty popcorn the size of my head or at a restaurant with friends, laughing until we’re blue in the face.

If you’re going out, how do you change your look?

For me it’s all about a bit of glitter on the eye or a bold lip. Either or, never both. For glitter, I’m in love with Stila’s new gels—they slide on so effortlessly and don’t go everywhere. For lips, I look to Tom Ford or MAC.

What’s your favorite way to relax and unwind in the evening?

A bubble bath with Jo Malone candles (Peony and Blush Suede is my favourite), a glass of red wine, and Fleetwood Mac blaring out of the speakers.

What TV show are you currently watching?

I’m a little late to the TV show party—I’m halfway through Breaking Bad and loving every second.

What book are you reading?

At the moment I’m reading a book on Picasso, as I’m playing Marie Therese Walter in a scripted TV show for National Geographic called Genius. You can never do enough research for these kinds of things.

What’s your favorite evening indulgence?

Reflexology with this magical woman called Patricia in London. Or a very large dirty martini.

What’s your secret evening guilty pleasure?

Grey’s Anatomy. I’ve watched it right from the beginning. And I can’t get enough!

What’s your favorite way to take a look from morning to moonlight?

L’Oréal’s super liquid eyeliner in black.

Do you prefer an end-of-day bath or shower?

Bath. Sometimes I’ll soak in one for hours until I go all prune-like. Jo Malone London do the most delicious bath oil called Red Roses.

What is your evening skincare routine?

I use Sarah Chapman’s cleanser to remove all makeup it as it’s deeply nourishing and smells like lavender. Followed by NeoStrata’s moisturiser and some hyaluronic ampoules from Dr. Barbara Sturm.

What is your evening hair routine?

I cover my hair in Luxe Oil by System Professional and then tie my hair into pigtails to stop it looking like a bird’s nest in the morning. Mermaid hair is the goal here.

What is the last beauty product you use at night?

MV Organics rose mist, which I spritz onto my face, and a quick layer of Eve Lom lip balm.

What are your bedtime rituals?

I like to turn my phone onto airplane mode half an hour before bed, then read a chapter of whatever book I’m devouring at the time. Wherever I am in the world, if I’m not with him, I speak to my husband.

What time do you go to bed? What time do you go to sleep?

During the week I love to be in bed by 10 p.m., asleep by 10:30 or 11. On weekends, it’s a mystery…

Love this! Can we do the same kind of questions and answers for Rosie and other great people in the industry with a great complexion (Miranda Kerr, Jennifer Lopez etc) so we can get some ideas and inspiration from them? I agree with another comment about healthy diet – we all know great skin starts from inside which is the hardest thing to stick to, not just because it’s hard to stay strict with the healthy eating but also because there aren’t many good places available witha healthy food, especially around U.K. anywhere other than London… Love you Rosie Inc, I love make up, I love all beauty and fashion and I love the tips, especially on a budget because let’s me honest a lot of brands out there do use their name for profit and cheaper alternatives can be found! Xx

Hi Rosie and team!! I love (loveee) the concept of Rosieinc.com and I loved the article. With the mix of skincare and diet/food regime, I personally think it would be great to also know what are amazing entrepreneurs/ambitious women are reading to keep them inspired. Because with everything that goes in their life, mental health and keeping your brain stimulated and inspired is very important and would love that detail to be talked about more.
Also, would love to see more woman from the business side of Fashion (editors, photographers, PR, etc) to share the same details!!
I absolutely love you Rosie for doing this! xxx
